So yesterday was another day trip. I love these because we get to look out the window and see the green countryside. This time we went to Dover first where we got to see the underground tunnels built there. During the Napoleonic wars they were used to the armed forces of Britain and then during WWII they had intelligence operations going on down there. We also had this crazy ginger tour guide so despite the tour being a little un-informative it was at least entertaining. The view from Dover castle was amazing though. I was so disappointed we only got to spend two hours there because I would have liked to explore the castle a little more but we got some nice photos and got to see the English Channel. It was the best part of the day trip. We were then rushed out of Dover because they had arranged to open the grounds for St. Augustine's Abbey in Canterbury on a day that it wasn't normally open just so we could see it. We spent some time there and then made our way to the cathedral. I was so shocked at how commercialized Cantebury is! I guess since it is a huge tourist attraction they have built up all these shops around it but I am sick of shopping! We were given four hours here in Canterbury so after spending about two in the Cathedral we weren't sure what to do with ourselves. We wandered around town for a bit and then ended up getting hot chocolate in Starbucks with Dr. Howe. Note to everyone looking for a delightful cup of goodness: try the caramel hot chocolate.
The Canterbury cathedral was huge and I think it was one of my favorite churches besides Westminster Abbey. Here you can see where Thomas a Becket was murdered and also the Black Princes armour. I had a ton of fun here and Laura, Christina and Jake were making me laugh far too much to be in a cathedral. I should probably stop visiting holy places with them. But I am loving London and have met some awesome people over here. After we got back the four of us went to Nando's for dinner and then came home and exchanged photos. Good ending to a good day.
Also... I need to put in a little plug for the yogurt over here. It is SO much better than yogurt in the United States. They have the most delicious and outrageous flavors. For instance, I used to be addicted to this Greek honey and walnut flavor and then I started branching out and realizing that nearly all the flavors were good. This morning I selected the natural yogurt with dark chocolate shavings with black cherry layering on the bottom. But get ready, here is the best part: "Only 98 calories per pot!" So Yoplait take a lesson in yogurt making from the Brits because they know where it is at! If you want further information on the best yogurt ever click here
Hope life is grand wherever you are today!

The gorgeous view, with France out across the English Channel!

The beginning of the tour
we thought a picture on top of one of the pillars at St. Augustine's Abbey would be cool. Bad idea, they are a little crumbly. No more climbing on ancient things. Should have been smart enough to know that before hand.
More of the ruins of St. Augustine's Abbey
A bunch of us at St. Augustine's Abbey
And lastly, Canterbury Cathedral.
